The recent changes to the CA Intermediate syllabus, effective for the May 2024 term, have opened up fresh opportunities for aspiring Chartered Accountants. The reduction of subjects from eight to six is a breath of fresh air, allowing students to manage their time better and explore enrolling in both groups without feeling overwhelmed.
So, keeping in mind how to manage your time better and clear your CA intermediate exams, In this blog, we will be discussing whether students should opt for both groups or not, whether should they opt for self-study or take CA intermediate classes and how can SJC help students.
Table of Contents |
The CA Intermediate syllabus for Group 1 includes:
Paper 1: Advanced Accounting
Paper 2: Law
Paper 3: Taxation.
Group 2:
Paper 4: Cost and Management Accounting
Paper 5: Financial Management Strategic Management
Paper 6: Auditing
If you're a CA Foundation or direct entry student, it's important to plan your study time effectively as students get 8 months of study time, of which it is recommended that you dedicate 6 months to classes and the remaining 2 months to revision. Divide your week into two parts: 3 days for Group 1 subjects and 3 days for Group 2. Sundays should be reserved for making up for any classes skipped or reviewing important concepts.
The answer is heavily influenced by your ability and goal. To pass, you must get at least 40% in each paper and an overall score of 50% in each group. While many students meet the 40% requirement in each subject, they fall short of the 50% group aggregate. Here's a pro tip: if you get more than 60% in one paper but don't pass the entire group, then students are allowed not to give that paper for the next three times which we call an exemption.
If students give both groups and get a score of 160 in one group but only 140 in the other, in such case the student will be marked as failed, if would’ve attempted one group only, but if the student attempted both groups he/she will be able to pass through set-off and achieve a total score of 300.
Preparing for both groups is important for students aiming for All India Ranks (AIR). However, for the vast majority of students, it comes down to personal strategy.
While self-study is an option, enrolling in CA Intermediate classes has several benefits. In Self-study, Concepts can be difficult to grasp at times, and students may waste time searching for appropriate solutions online. But if you take classes, skilled teachers and mentors will assist you in clarifying key topics, providing class notes, offering tests, providing revision sessions, and solving past paper question papers, Doubt-clearing sessions etc.
Live online classes become an issue if you dont have proper internet connections, there may be times when you have college exams and you won't be able to attend. Recorded classes allow you to study at your own pace while also managing other tasks without the limits of travelling to face-to-face classes or issues with college exams or internet connectivity issues.
