How to stay focused while studying CA /CMA ?

Written by CA Satish Jalan | Feb 21, 2023 6:05:00 AM

It is challenging to study. Whether you're a high school student, a CA, CMA, or a CS student, staying focused while studying is a challenge that we all face. Whether it's social media, procrastination, time management, or a combination of the three, it affects your concentration severely.

In this blog, we've suggested ways to reduce stress while studying and keep you focused on what matters.

And, if you're like the majority of my students, either  Learning remotely and losing the motivation or learning face-to-face and having difficulty managing time, read the entire blog. Here I will suggest some points which can give you some perspective on how to manage everything.

So let's get started!

How to manage your thought while studying?

1. Master the skill of avoiding thoughts.

While studying, you may have, had many thoughts about the future, your exams, and many more things that bother you, waste your time, and stresses you out. And you feel like there is no control over your thoughts, and you are not able to avoid these thoughts.

When these thoughts arise while studying, try reading out loud, as when you read out loud your attention is simply focused on the words of the book rather than the thoughts.

You can even, journal down all the thoughts and commitments i.e the things you need to focus on, and things you need to complete in the entire day .this will help you in clearing your thoughts and you will be aware of what things need to be finished at the end of the day

If you practice this habit of journaling before studying, on a daily basis, not just while studying, the distracting thoughts will stop bothering you. Simply divert your attention away from these thoughts.

2. Prepare by watching videos about the study material.

Watch youtube videos or marathon videos related to your study material before going through the lessons, watching the marathons or related videos first will already have an interest in the course material, and your mind will recall the things you saw in the videos instead of unnecessary thoughts when you glance over the words of the book. When you have enough time between exams, do this. If you are easily distracted, it is best not to watch videos during exam time.

3. Develop the habit of meditating.

There are various types of meditation you can practice, but one, in particular, can help you focus while studying and keep your thoughts at bay.

First, set aside some time in your schedule solely for meditation. Stay away from all distractions, including mobile phones, during that time. Take deep breaths and count those breaths. Try not to think of anything. If some thoughts come to you, try not to react or form connections with them. That is, forming connections causes one thought to lead to another, wasting a lot of time. Instead, do not respond to them. Even if you find it difficult, practice it.

4. Change your mindset

If you study hard but can't concentrate, you'll develop the strong belief that "I can't concentrate", "I can't study without thinking", or "I always feel sleepy while studying". These are the beliefs you must eliminate from your mind and cease believing in them.

The more you believe your thoughts, the more likely they will come true. Instead, practice methods for stopping yourself from thinking while studying and believe that you can study without thinking or feeling sleepy. Don't believe your own limitations, and don't tell anyone that you can't study without thinking or that you can't concentrate. The more you tell others, the stronger your beliefs will become.

How to study with CA /CMA video classes?

How should I motivate when I don't feel like studying?

Students have a concern that they don't feel like studying on some days, we have always suggested to our students that if they don’t feel like studying, they shouldn’t scroll from app to app. Because they won't even realize where time flies when they scroll through social media platforms, rather when they don't feel like studying they should try some activities which will help them relax like meditation, yoga, and listening to music.

If such times come when the human connection has been lost, you are living under the roof, but couldn’t make conversation with your family members,  try talking. Force yourself to talk to your loved ones.  It helps relax your mind.

Students need the trigger of change during those times, as they need to involve in activities which are helping them to relax and bring peace to their minds.

We at SJC, help our students not only with the classes but help them after the classes with time management, learning techniques, revision marathons, help them with personalized schedules, mock tests, etc.

I hope these tips were helpful. All the best for your future exams.
