Although CMA Intermediate and CMA Final exams are always held in December, this term's exams were scheduled from January 5th to January 12th, 2023.
We noticed some changes in the exam pattern after the institute released the MTPs for both the intermediate and final exams prior to the exam.
We expected the paper pattern to be similar to the previous term paper pattern, which was for the May 2022 term, but due to changes in the MTPs released by the institute, we now have the new paper pattern.
So, today we'll go over the CMA exam pattern for the January 2023 term, which will also apply to the next June 2023 term.
This blog will guide you through all the changes , but if you do not have time to read the entire blog watch this short video.
1. CMA Intermediate Subjective-wise exam pattern
As the CMA Intermediate exam follows this pattern, which is:
The above pattern is the same as before; the difference is in the next section of the question paper.
There are no changes to the 25-mark section of the question paper that includes the above pattern, and there are only a few changes to the 75-mark writing section of the question paper.
Previously, there were six questions in the writing section of the question paper, and you had to attend any five of them.
But now there are seven questions from which you must answer five. So, students will get more options to choose from.
- Every question is divided into two parts, with the final question being a short note question, which means it is a theory question.
- And there will be five short questions, of which you must answer three out of five.
The above pattern will be followed by all inter-subjects leaving some subjects like OM -SM and Company accounts & audits.
a) Operations Management & Strategic Management. ( OM-SM )
The operations management & strategic management paper has some changes in its question paper pattern.
b) Company accounts & audit
As we saw, in OM -SM, Company accounts and audit is also following a different pattern. We all know company accounts & audit is divided into 2 parts, which is:
Part 1: Company accounts - 50 marks
Part 2: Audit - 50 marks
***It should be noted that the last question will be a short note question in which you must attend three out of five questions and it will be the same for the Audit also.
2. CMA Final subjective-wise exam pattern
The CMA Final exam follows this pattern, which is:
IMPORTANT: Take note of the time while attending the MCQ, as there may be long practical questions because the MCQ is worth 2 points.
All the subjects of the CMA Final level follow a paper pattern as above leaving these two subjects which are Indirect tax laws (IDT) & Strategic Performance Management & Business Valuation ( SPM-BV)
So, let's first look into the changes in the IDT.
a. Indirect tax laws
***Point to be noted: There won't be any short note questions in this paper.
b. Strategic Performance Management & Business Valuation
( SPM-BV)
SPM-BV is divided into 2 PARTS,
PART 1: SPM - 50 marks
PART 2: BV - 50 marks
***Point to be noted: There won't be any short note questions.
Many students who do not pay attention to short notes while studying should pay attention to short notes this time because, as we can see, short note questions are being asked in CMA Intermediate exams.
Pay attention to practical questions and try to attend them; if you are unable to attend the practical questions due to difficulty, your only option is to answer theory questions; this is why you must pay attention to practical questions so that you do not get stuck in the exams.
I hope you prepare well and ace your exams by following this pattern. See my Youtube video explaining the changes in detail.
Best wishes!
