The Top Reasons Why Students Leave CA

Written by CA Satish Jalan | Jan 14, 2023 6:57:52 AM

Chartered Accountancy (CA) is one of the most prestigious courses in India. Students generally start their CA journey after completing their higher secondary examination.

As you all know, the passing rate of students in the CA Final exams is very low. Like in May 2022 term, the passing rate of CA Final students for both groups was 12.59%. Because of this low passing rate, students get demotivated.

Students need to understand that failure is not the end of the world. It’s just an event of life. Always take it as learning. Understand your mistakes so you can rectify them next time.

In this article, I'm going to share with you the reasons why students choose to quit their studies for CA in between, and why it happens to them.

Now let's see some prominent reasons to Quit CA

The reasons why students quit their CA journey in the middle:

  • Lack of Interest

Students nowadays, just do things for the sake of doing them. They don't even bother to find out why they should be doing it.

When we do something that we really want, we give our best to it, because our interest lies in it. Also, when you know what you will be getting out of it. You work for that outcome because you will receive the reward only after completing that task.

Just like that, you all need to understand whether you want to pursue CA or not. Some students realize it at the end, and they drop out of the CA course in between. But you should ask yourself this question at the start of the course whether you want to pursue CA or not. It will save you time as well as mental pressure.

  •  Lack of Proper Guidance

We all need a mentor in our life. It can be our parents, friend, elder siblings, teacher or anyone who we admire the most in our life.

This mentor guides us when we cannot decide what we actually want in life or when we fail to make any major decisions. We can discuss with them, and put our propositions in front of them. They might give us the clarity that we were looking for but were able to find ourselves.

You can be a very good student but are not able to achieve your goals in life because you don’t have anyone to guide you. You can make your teacher also your mentor.

  • Family Economical Problems

Economic issues are one of the most pressing concerns for people in India's middle and lower classes. Many students have had to drop out of school because of financial difficulties. Scholarships have been introduced by the government to protect the careers of these students. Scholarships are offered to students based on their exam scores and academic performance.

Why Students Fail In Their CA Exam?

  • Parental Support

Parents are the one who understands their child the best. But sometimes these parents only create such mental pressure on their children that they fail to understand what they are going through mentally.

As a parent, they should also understand that CA is not an easy course. Sometimes students even after appearing for a number of attempts fail to clear their CA Final exams.

It’s not just the student who prepares for the exams, but it’s a collective effort from both the family and the students which helps them in clearing their exams. So, they should always support children and try to understand their mental state.

Parents should never create any mental pressure on their children for clearing the exams or compare their results with their fellow mates. This can have a negative impact on their mental health.

  • Failure must not affect the determination

You must have heard this famous proverb, ‘Where there is a will there's a way.’ If your desire to achieve something is strong in life then you will find ways to achieve it anyhow.

This determination will act as a guiding force and will help you during your weak times. It will help you to work more towards your goal.

Most of the students are not able to achieve their goals in life, because they are not determined in their goals. If their will is strong then they will not hesitate to work hard to achieve their CA degree.

It’s just not applicable for CA but for any other course. Students just need to be determined towards achieving it and they will find themselves working hard toward it.

Taking our student CA Shikha Jain as an example, she an AIR 2 in CA Final exams.

  • Lack of confidence

Confidence comes when you are well-prepared for the exams. Most students simply finish their classes and believe they are prepared to take the main CA exams. That, however, is incorrect.

When a student has completed his/her classes a few months before the exam and has revised the concepts three times, as well as appeared for mock tests and solved the previous year's question papers, they will feel confident in facing the CA main exams. The mock tests prepare them for the actual exams. This strategy is applicable not only to Final students but also to Intermediate students.

  • More than one attempt

The main cause of frustration for the students is the number of attempts they have to appear for to clear their CA Final exams. At the start of the course students are generally very energetic to complete the course, but as time pass and when they are unable to clear in even after 4-5 attempts their frustration reaches another level.

What they can do is they can appear for one paper each time and can clear it. This is one tip.

Also, one of my students Manas Bhagat was doing CMA, but had to face hardships of life, and even after so many attempts he cleared his CMA Finals. You can take him as an inspiration and see how after so many attempts and hardships in life how he was able to complete his CMA Finals.
